1.
Grant asked:
How did you get started?
Judy responded:
Well, the real story is that someone dared me to do Stand-up in college, and I did, but I was too young, so I graduated, got a real job and said there is no way I'm working in an office again, and started doing stand-up. I would work during the day, and then try to get on stage at night until I was finally making enough money to "quit the day job."

2.
Tiffney asked:
How does your mother feel about being the center of your jokes?
Judy responded:
My mother loves it because as you probably guessed, she loves ATTENTION!!!! She keeps telling me she should get residuals.

3.
Julie asked:
If you had your dream entertainment job, what would it be?
Judy responded:
My dream entertainment job? I've got a lot of things I want to do. I want to be on a really good series, I'd love a talk show, I want to do more movies, and I definitely want to be on Broadway. I'm in this for the long run, so I'm hoping to accomplish them all.

4.
Alan asked:
Is it true you have a good looking, intelligent older brother who looks younger than you?
Judy responded:
What a coincidence. My brother has the same name as you. Everything is true except he looks much older than me.

5.
Megan Lee asked:
I'm a 5'11", 16 year old female, from Fresno,CA. I'm going to be doing a speech on "Why I'd Rather Be Tall" for school (Academic Decathalon). I was hoping you could share a joke or antidote that I could incorporate into my speech. Of course I would give you full credit for the laughes. What do ya say tall gal pal?
Judy responded:
Congratulations on being tall!!! Keep on growing. I have so many stories about being tall. I tried out for the basketball team in 7th grade, and at that time I was almost 6 feet tall, and the coach told me I was too tall for the team, and it wouldn't be fair to the other players. I ended up never playing basketball - I was in the band and choir ( I was the only one who didn't have to stand on riser). I got sweet revenge because I told that story on "The Tonight Show" 20 years later.

6.
Bob Sobel asked:
I have heard you talk a little bit about your height and basketball. Did you play basketball? Are you a good athlete?
Judy responded:
I play basketball for fun. I never played on a team because when I tried out in 7th grade, the coach said I was too tall for the team. Nice, huh?

7.
Scott Smith asked:
I am medical resident and come from a neurotic jewish family, and have wanted to do stand up all my life. I have performed locally and taken a workshop in LA. What would you advice to get started?
Judy responded:
I can't believe you're going to be a doctor, and you want to do stand-up. HELLO?!?!?!??! If you want to really do stand-up, the best advice I have is to get on stage as much as possible. Stage time is the most important thing. Go anywhere, any time and just do it. I think you're really going to disappoint the family, though.

8.
Bedevire Griffiths asked:
Hi Judy, have you any plans to tour Wales, England and Scotland I would love to see you over this side of the big pond.
Judy responded:
I have no plans to go to England/Scotland. I actually performed in England once, and they hated me!!!

9.
Todd asked:
I heard you were expecting your 2nd child in August..... does that mean we won't have the pleasure of having you here in Provincetown this summer? ( congrats, by the way! )
Judy responded:
Thanks!! Nope, I won't be in P-town this summer. I'll be performing at the Crown and Anchor June 15-17 for the P-town film festival, though.

10.
Lollo asked:
Hey Judy how do you feel about having big feet?
Judy responded:
I have no choice. I feel really great about it because I'm not falling all over the place.

11.
Jane asked:
Any chance you can swing by Denver? I had the pleasure of seeing you perform at the Comedy Works a couple of years ago and my stomach still hurts from laughing so hard--you absolutely KILLED me & my friends! We're in recovery but it hurt so good we wanna' do it again! Pretty please?
Judy responded:
Thanks!!! I don't do the road a lot anymore - kids!!!!!

12.
Adam asked:
Hiya are you into younger guys?....cause i just happen to be a younger guy who is in complete awe of your charisma and humor...i enjoy independant films and warm fires with a....ah nevermind..whats your favorite food dish?
Judy responded:
I love younger guys, especially my sons. I LOVE FOOD!!!

13.
Greg Price asked:
I am attempting stand-up, at this point it is more of a hobby and a learning process. If I am someday able to do it for a living is it realistic to think I could take my wife and son with me on tour? Do you tour with your family? Do you know of any comics who tour with their families?
Judy responded:
I don't think it's realistic to take your wife and son on tour with you. It's very stessful sometimes, not to mention expensive. I think it could be a treat every now and then. The only family I know that toured together was a husband and wife team that worked together and didn't have a home. They lived out of their van and the various hotels they stayed at. Not a pleasant site. Besides, if you worked in an office, do you want your family there all day long?

14.
Chris asked:
Why is it that you are the ONLY funny female comedian??? There is NOT even one other remotely funny female out there. Why are you not the Queen of the Earth? You should be.

Hurry up and get your own TV show!!!

Love,
Chris

Judy responded:
Chris,I love you!!! Thanks and pray that I get my own show.

15.
Bill Bettermann asked:
Did you EVER think that my attendance at your first comedy gig would have propelled you to such heights???
Judy responded:
Bill, I've been wanting to thank you for years.

16.
Sammy asked:
Hi i watched ur special on Comedy Central and loved it! Any chance that u r coming to Pittsburgh, PA?
Judy responded:
Thanks!! Not anytime soon.

17.
Steve asked:
Hey Judy, I really enjoy your "At the Multiplex" on HBO. Have you ever filmed one of the "Multiplex" shorts in Hyannis, Ma.? I watched one time and it looked just like the local Hoyts cinema. Thanks Steve.
Judy responded:
YES. We taped one there.

18.
Chelsea asked: I remember seeing you on the Comedy Channel (or was it MTV's Half Hour Comedy Hour?) when I was in elementary school (do you feel old or what?) and I remember thinking how funny you were. You spoke about being awkward as a child...and as a fat girl I really appreciated hearing your stories. You were an inspiration! Do you feel some sort of responsibility as a role model? Do you feel like a role model at all?
Judy responded:
Thanks for making me feel old. No, I don't feel like a role model, but if I can help any kid who feels awkward or different - that makes me happy.

19.
Allison asked:
I always enjoy your "At the Multiplex," however I only get to see it when I happen to click on that HBO channel. Is there a schedule so I can plan to watch?
Judy responded:
No, there's no schedule. They fit it in between the movies, and shows, so we never know when it's going to be on.

20.
Julie asked:
My father is a stand up comic in New York. He has performed numerous times at Stand up NY. He loves you and thinks you are hysterical! We are Jewish so we laughed at all your Jewish jokes. We would like to know if you are coming to New York to perform so we can go see you. Thanks.
Judy Responded:
Thanks!! I perform in NYC all the time. Call the clubs: Carolines, Gotham Comedy Club.

21.
Diane asked:
Do you have any CD's and/or videos available for purchase?? I ran across your show on Comedy Central recently at the end of a miserable day and you made me laugh - no small feat!
Judy responded:
Yes, Finally!!! Check it out here on my site. You can buy it at DC Improv.

22.
Tiffney asked:
I was wondering if you will market any "Judy Gold" products in the future?
Judy responded:
Sorry, no plans at this time, the only merchandise I would sell would be clothes/shoes for tall women.

23.
Mark asked:
I go to Rutgers right now, when did you graduate?
Judy responded:
I graduated Rutgers in 1984. I'm old. I lived in Campbell Hall.

24.
Fleming asked:
Whats the best way to get red wine stains out of a white carpet?
Judy responded:
Call the carpet cleaner.

25.
Diane asked:
When is the next time you will be at Caroline's or Gotham Comedy in New York?
Judy responded:
I'll be at Gotham in March, I don't have a date yet for Carolines. You can just call the clubs and they'll tell you when I'm there. OR check out this web page often, we wil update Judy's appearance dates when they become available.

26.
Lloyd asked:
I saw you doing an HBO between movies vignette where you were interviewing folks about their opinion on recent films. Is this a regular gig for you? Are you over 6' tall? I also liked the fact that you wore glasses.
Judy responded:
Yes, HBO's "At The Multiplex with Judy Gold" is a regular thing. I love doing it. We shoot for about 5 hours for a 4 minute piece. I've also covered the Golden Globe Awards for HBO which was lots of fun. HBO loves my glasses too.

27.
Andy asked:
In your report from Aspen for HBO you joked about finally finding shoes in your size there. What size shoe do you wear and are there any sites on line you recommend in finding lager sized footwear. I'm dating a young lady now who wears a 13 in men's. Thanks for your time and being so funny! You're a wonderful person, I look forward to seeing you in your upcoming projects.
Judy responded:
I'm a size 12. My big size shoe store just closed, so I've been looking on line. I found some shoes at Nordstrom, and Reyer's, but it's really hard!!

28.
Mike asked:
Do you ever get tired of people asking dumb questions about your height? I'm 6'6" and I get the same ones all the time whenever I meet someone I've never met before....
Judy responded:
People always say stupid things about my height. I'll get off stage and people say, "You're tall!" or "You're not 6'3"!" You know, like I would make it up. People are sooo stupid.

29.
Tiffney asked:
What was it like working with Glenn Close in "The Ballad of Lucy Whipple?"
Judy responded:
It was amazing working with Glenn Close. She's so talented and so professional, and a lot of fun!!

30.
Michael asked:
Judy we miss you i saw you with my boyfriend last year in provincetown and you were hysterical. i live near new hope, are you doing a show this summer at odettes? or in provincetown? please write back cheers, mike and chris
Judy responded:
THANKS!!! I'll be at the P'Town Post Office Café & Cabaret July 1-7 and again August 17-Labor Day. Check the calendar for dates and times. Hope to see you there.

31.
Joe asked:
I loved when you read your viewer mail on Short Attention Span Theater with Jon Stewart and Patty. I have it on tape somewhere. Do you ever see Patty around? I assume she left the biz.
Judy responded:
I can't believe you even remember that!!! Patty has 2 kids, and she's back doing stand-up. She left the business for a while, but she's getting back into it now.

32.
Diane asked:
My little girl who is 11 years old just loves you — wants to know where she can see you perform
Judy responded:
Comedy Clubs don't usually let 11 year old in. Carolines might, but that's the only one I know. Also, I don't know if you want your 11 year old hearing some of the words we use. Please tell her hello.

33.
Abby asked:
Judy, when you come and perform at Ohio University the first weekend in May for Mom's weekend, would you go out to dinner with me and my mom? I know my mom Estelle, being a jewish mother in the truest sense of the word, would really enjoy and we would have a lot to talk about. Thanks!
Judy responded:
Abby, I'm not coming to Ohio University because I'm pregnant and I can't travel. I'd love to come next year!!

34.
Robert asked:
Hi Judy! I saw you last summer in P-Town — you're a riot! Do you plan to ever tour through Denver? I know it's not as glamourous as Las Vegas or California — even Madonna won't tour here. BTW, do you have any other sound clips besides the one from Napster?
Judy responded:
I don't know if there are other sound clips. That's the only one I knew about. I'm not doing the road, but I'm not ruling out Denver for the future!!

35.
Nathan asked:
Judy, I downloaded an audio clip of you from the internet. It was hysterical. Where can I find audio or videos of you. I love your comedy.
Judy responded:
Thanks!! You can get my new CD "Judith's Roommate Had A Baby" at DC Improv online. Just click here. I don't know where my HBO special is - sometimes they have those in the video stores.

36.
Andrew Christmas asked:
Hey Judy, I was sooo mad I missed you at the Chicago Comedy Festival last year. I have been a fan for years. I saw you at Wise Guys in Syracuse about 10 years ago. Oh my god it was a riot."It's Judy's Show"! I remember that bit about sliding down a spit curl!!! You picked on my roommate because he is a speech pathologist. You left me alone I think because I clocked in at 420 and took up two chairs!!!!!! I am trying to get started in standup myself and have done a couple shows at Zanies in Chicago and some radio work for B96. Have you thrown your hat in the ring if Rosie retires? I think you would be great. Any plans to come back to Chicago. The Fat Fag will buy you a drink. Do you think it is a kiss of death to be out in your act? I really don't want to get labeled. Thanks for your time.
Judy responded:
Thanks!!! I can't say that I remember you from Syracuse. Sorry! You have to make a decision about coming out in your act. You can get labeled depending on the material that you do. If you make it your entire act, then you'll definitely get labeled. You have to talk about what's organic to you, and not worry about what everyone thinks about you. Good Luck!!

37.
Glenn Allen asked:
My question isn't meant to be offensive, and I hope it's not taken that way (I like Jewish thinking, by the way, and was taking lessons at my local Reform temple (I was raised Catholic however)).

My question is: Which branch of Judaism do you belong to? And how does being Jewish help you as a stand-up comic? (Maybe it's me, but all my Jewish friends let all sorts of problems roll off their backs, of which I'm soooo jealous!)

Judy responded:
Dear Glenn, You were definitely raised Catholic if you think Jews let their problems roll off their backs! I'm a Conservative Jew. I think Jewish people have great senses of humor because they are a persecuted people. I think that's the same with other persecuted groups - you need a sense of humor to get through things.

38.
Juli asked:
Judy! Hey, I'm a big fan of your comedy and I love your comic timing. You've influenced my comedy a lot, but who have your biggest influences been? And when did you decide you wanted to be a comedienne?
Judy responded:
Thanks!!! My biggest influences have been people I watched when I was coming up. Joy Behar, Mario Cantone, Richard Belzer, Kevin Meaney, Paula Poundstone. Someone dared me to do stand-up, so that's how I started. I loved being on stage so much, and that hasn't changed a bit.

39.
Eileen O'Flaherty-Campbell asked:
No wonder you were "propelled to such heights" for "there is no better man than, Bill Betterman". Judy do you remember working with Jim Gandolfini at Rhyans? Have you worked with him or have your paths crossed professionally? Do you still keep in touch with Karen & Matt? Congratulations on your success.
Judy responded:
No, I don't remember working with Jim Gandolfini. In fact, I don't even remember Rhyans. Isn't that pathetic? I work for HBO, but our paths have not crossed except seeing him at events. No, I don't keep in touch with Karen and Matt. I keep in touch with Howard. I couldn't have done it without Bill Betterman.

40.
Jackie McConnell asked:
Judy...My husband and I will be in New York City for the first time. We love comedy. Tell us why we should choose Carolines Comedy Club instead of any other comedy show in town?
Judy responded:
Carolines is a great club, but it's a headliner club which means that you'll see a couple of people opening for a bigger name who will do most of the time. If you go to a showcase club like Gotham Comedy Club, you'll see more comics doing less time, but always call the club before because lots of times they have special theme nights. Have fun!

41.
Kelly asked:
Do you plan to pursue more dramatic roles in film or television in the future? Would you ever take a full time role in a television drama?
Judy Responded:
Of course!! I'd love to be on a TV show. I'm presently working on my one-woman show "G_d Doesn't Pay Rent Here" with playwright Kate Moira Ryan.

42.
Michael J. Quinlan asked:
I used to have a tape of your performance on HBO a few years ago. Unfortunately, I lost it and am kicking myself. I saw your showcase on Comedy Central and it brought back some of the memories of the HBO special...so is there ANY possible way to attain a copy of that performance or am I screwed?
Judy responded:
Sometimes they have them at video stores. I don't know how to get a copy, you might want to contact HBO, if that doesn't work, write back and I'll ask my manager. Thanks for the support!!!!
